Congressman Daniel Webster threw out the first pitch at a Winter Garden Squeeze baseball game, during which West Orange elected officials participated in an orange “squeeze off.” After the first inning, Oakland Commissioner Joseph McMullen, Ocoee Commissioner Rosemary Wilsen, Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn, Clermont council member Tim Bates, and Winter Garden Commissioner Robert “Bobby” Olszewski competed to see who could squeeze the most juice into a glass.
Congratulations to the 10-under West Orange Bobcats cheerleading team for earning first- and second-place trophies at the 2013 Amateur Athletic Union Cheerleading National Championship. The national competition, which was held at The Venue, UCF’s sports and entertainment arena, welcomed teams from all over the East Coast. The win capped a fantastic season for the cheerleaders, who supported the Bobcats football team throughout the fall.

The Winter Garden-based Triple Double Basketball Academy Heat won first place in the middle school/freshman division for its spring season. Congratulations to the team members for an undefeated season and winning first place in the championship game.

The West Orange High School varsity boys soccer team wins the district championship for the fourth consecutive year. The Warriors are currently ranked as the No. 5 high school soccer team in the nation. They will now enter the regional playoffs, which will culminate in the state championship.
Southwest Orlando Golf League concluded its team competition for the season. Groups from Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, The Golden Bear Club, West Orange Country Club, and Windermere Country Club competed for points in the matches. The Bay Hill team, led by captain Paula Hodges, won the competition with the fewest total strokes over the season.
After winning 2014 AAA Top Team for the Windermere Little League baseball team, the WLL Pirates advanced to the District 14 Little League tournament. The Pirates easily captured the minor league top team championship, going undefeated at the district level against teams from Dr. Phillips, Ocoee, South Lake, Winter Garden and Windermere.
Windermere Wildfire 03 members finished in first place in the 11-under division during United States Specialty Sports Association’s Summer Lovin’ at the NTC fast-pitch softball tournament. Held at the National Training Center in Clermont, Summer Lovin’ saw Wildfire 03 battle it out with other teams from Longwood, Ocoee, Pierson and Rockledge.
