femdomstyle: Gibson girls doing what? In the Belle Epoque (European term for the happy years leading up to the First World War) the Gibson girl was the image of the ideal American woman. She was the creation of Life illustrator Charles Dana Gibson (1869-1944) and said to be modelled on his wife Irene Langhorne. Both Charles and Irene were offspring of what we may call the US aristocracy. After 1918 Gibson became owner of Life magazine. This illustration is dated 1903.
