New Butterfly named after Maria Sibylla Merian

A rare black #butterfly has been named in honor of Maria Sibylla Merian, who in 1699 - divorced, 52 years old & a self-taught naturalist - became the first European woman to undertake a scientific expedition to South America, largely self-funding the trip by selling 255 of her paintings. #WomenInSTEM
