Emily Kane reported that parents were positive and supportive of their daughter’s deviance from what is considered the norm for little girls. Words like “tom-boy,” and “athletic” were used in support of their children’s nonconventional tendencies. In comparison, a majority of parents of boys reportedly expressed “at least some negative response regarding what they perceived as gender nonconformity.”
