IT’S FOUNDER’S DAY at Ohio Northern University! In March 1866, a 28-year-old, recently discharged Union veteran, Henry Solomon Lehr, detrained at the Ada depot. Lehr had come to northwestern Ohio in search of a site for his projected university. Lehr approach the citizens of Ada for funds to purchase land for a campus and an academic building. In August 1871, the Northwestern Ohio Normal School commenced.
1979: During the past 50 years, many art & design students have participated and worked for Polaris, an award-winning undergraduate journal of arts and literature at Ohio Northern. The journal publishes original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and art. Brett Vottero (history/political science major) from Ada, Ohio, had a photograph featured on the cover. His work was entitled “A Child’s Best Friend.”
The Chalet Toboggan Chutes: The Chalet is located in Strongsville, Ohio just 20 minutes from downtown Cleveland. The Chalet Toboggan Chutes are the only public ice chutes in Ohio and are open the day after Thanksgiving through the first weekend of March.
