Harold Holdcroft designed Old Country Roses in1962.Taking both rich and soft colors he completed the winning design with rich gold stipple and a burnished gold rim. This classic pattern emphasises the full bodied and curvaceous Montrose tableware shape.Over one hundred million pieces of Old Country Roses have been sold, more than any other bone china tableware pattern.
I love these. I immediately thought of the claymation film "Mary and Max" Narrator: "Her favourite tea bag was Earl Grey. She loved saying "Earl Grey" and would like one day to marry someone called Earl Grey. They would live in a castle in Scotland, have 9 babies, 2 ducks...and a dog called Kevin."
