The most famous building in Dallas: the old Texas school book depository (now home to the Dallas County Commissioners Court and the district attorney). Lee Harvey Oswald is believed to have fired the shots that killed president John F. Kennedy from the sixth floor window. The infamous winndow is on the top floor, the window fartherest to the right, in the first of the two similar buildings as you are looking up the hill in this photo. The trees that obscure the front of the building were not there in 1963, and were planted later. The Sixth Floor museum is in the second building (not the one from which the shots were fired), and is open to the public, whereas the other building is not.

Thanksgiving Square is a small meditation and prayer tower in Downtown Dallas which has a lovely water garden and this spiral stained glass window overhead. This was shot looking straight up to the highest point of the tower, as close to the center of the room as I could get.

This bridge to nowhere was one of Mayor Tom Leppert's many follies as one of the worst large city mayors in recent memory. He lit it up last year when the Superbowl was played in Arlington, but it won't be finished for antoher year or so -- and it's a HUGE waste of taxpayer money in any event.

One year ago: It's in the 70's today, but one year ago, the backyard was a winter wonderland for a 9-year-old boy and two playful dogs.
