SMART Goals for Data Folders

A better way to deal with disruptive students in middle and high school. Print these out on quarter- or half- sheets and hand them to students who are off-task or disruptive. Or laminate a few and have dry- or wet-erase markers on hand. A behavior slip forces the student to think about their actions and how they can prevent them in the future, without taking up extra class time for discipline! Students are less likely to act up if they know they'll have to fill one of these out every time.

This survey is great to do at the beginning of the year to get a feel for how your students believe they learn. It asks questions like: What do you do when you need help? What environment do you work best in? What is the best way for you to show what you know?

Critical thinking skills are what we want our students to develop. Without these skills we can not guarantee a sound and effective education that will enable our kids to seamlessly blend in tomorrow 's  job market. Therefore, it is our responsibility as teachers and educators to fully understand the components of this set of skills in order to better focus on them in our instruction.
