Old Orchard in Webster Groves - one of two business districts in Webster. Old Orchard is a little more eclectic than Old Webster but there are fun shops, the farmer's market, and they have a vibrant business community that is very "social."

"In her 1975 book Webster Groves, Clarissa Start tells the story of one-time Webster Groves Police Chief Andy McDonnell, and his crusade to get local boys to stop stealing signs...He asked the boys to return all the signs they had stolen, and sure enough, come Saturday morning, there were hundreds of signs stacked up in front of Police Headquarters."

In 1939 WG Police Chief Andy McDonnell held a boys' court run by the boys themselves. One boy was caught stealing a sign and claimed it was a hobby among the boys in town. The chief made the rounds of schools asking the boys to return all the stolen signs. Around 200 signs were turned in and returned to merchants. ~ Story from C. Start's 1975 book "Webster Groves".
