Bird of the Week – Red-tailed Hawk
Most birds in Texas are borealis but some possible fuertesi in the West. The flight of low-flying redtails can appear labored (even described as "awkward") due to its bulk and wing loading, somewhat similarly to massive accipitrids such as eagles.
A Rough-legged Hawk: A bird of the North, The Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic Tundra and Taiga regions around The Northern Hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes.
