Self Portrait - 1927. Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938) created powerful, unconventional, and sometimes controversial figure paintings, often of female nudes which was unusual in the 19th Cfor a woman artist. In 1894, Valadon became the first woman painter admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. She was also the mother of painter Maurice Utrillo.
