Rio de Janeiro | Darkened Cities: Lights from these famous metropolises have been removed, giving you a glimpse at what a city would look like without the power of electricity
"French photographer Thierry Cohen wants to show you what the cities might look like if they went dark on a clear day, and if the photographer focused on bringing out the stars. His project Darkened Cities shows recognizable cityscapes in darkness under the night sky." Rio de Janeiro. © Thierry Cohen.
Thierry Cohen - Darkened Cities. Ecco come sarebbero alcune città del mondo senza inquinamento luminoso. #thierrycohen #photography #city #lightpollution
Rio de Janeiro If you live in a big city, clear starry sky must be a rare sight for you. Thierry Cohen gives us a chance to see what some of the biggest cities would look like if they went completely dark. In order to create his Darkened Cities photo series, he would first shoot the sky where there was no pollution and you could see the stars clearly, and then he'd capture the city in the day time. Merging the two pictures together gives you the final result – a bit ghostly, yet wildly romantic!

The programs so far are just a start at tackling a widespread problem: A third of the people in Rio state, nearly 5 million people, don't have title to their homes... (AP Photo/Felipe Dana)
