Word wall idea for "tired words". This would be good in a writing center ... easily accessible. LOVE it. "Tired words want to go to sleep. Let them rest! Don't make a peep! Try to use a synonym instead. Let those tired words stay in bed."
Classroom Displays to Rescue Tired Words! Wandering the web looking for word wall classroom displays to share with you I found a couple of interesting sites I'd not seen before. I'll save the other...
"tired word wall" where students grab synonyms to use in their writing instead of the "tired words" Great for Word Choice
"Tired word wall" where kids go grab synonyms to use in their writing instead of the "tired words". I don't have room for this whole bulletin board, but I'm definitely going to make envelopes for 'went' and 'said'.
Tired word wall...use these words instead of the same old tired words in writing. Comes from a classroom displays blog
Rescue Tired Words...LOVE this with library pockets! Tired Words! Tired words want to go to sleep. Let them rest! Don’t make a peep! Try to use a synonym instead. Let those tired words stay in bed! Read more: http://classroomdisplays.org.uk/literacy/classroom-displays-more-word-walls/#ixzz2BU0CXMRO

synonym wordwall - great for jazzing up rough drafts and creative writing
Replacing "tired" words--love these teaching ideas :)
The writing process, the 6 trait way... I like this, however... I would not put them in a sequential order. Most published authors will tell you that everyone's writing process is different. We may go through some of these steps, not necessarily all of them every time we write. To be authentic, mixing them around is a much better idea!

This idea, and many of the keys, came from a colleague of mine. Here’s how it worked: I got enough keys for all my students, and then made a tag for each key with a single, made-up line from a story. I threw the keys in a jar, and each student got to pick out a key. The assignment was simple: tell a story that makes that line make sense
I am so doing this this year!

Give students a fun writing assignment with "mystery keys." This is a wonderful idea, & some of the sentences on the keys are great for creative writing prompts
Give students a fun writing assignment with "mystery keys." Students receive one key and must write a story making sense of the line on the tag. Post includes lines to write on the key tags.
Mystery key stories - each tag includes a writing prompt dealing with a key and is attached to a real key. Students randomly select a key and write a story. This blog post includes some great story lines to include on the tags!
