St. Augustine is a Patron saint of brewers and also attributed to their wares. His massive turn around from his period of disillusionment and excess, including partying and significant alcohol consumption, as well as his life moderation from then on, are the main attributions to his status as a patron for brewers.
May 27 St. Augustine of Canterbury..Patron Saint of: England..Augustine wisely heeded the missionary principles—quite enlightened for the times—suggested by Pope Gregory the Great: purify rather than destroy pagan temples and customs; let pagan rites and festivals be transformed into Christian feasts; retain local customs as far as possible. Augustine of Canterbury can truly be called the “Apostle of England.”
