Eleanor Crumblehulme: Cutting libraries in a recession is like cutting hospitals in a plague.- That said. . . . .Our library has been able to stay open by taking serious cuts in hours and book buying while at the same time they have to pay an off-duty cop during the hours they are open because of the number of homeless there keeping warm. Somehow that doesn't seem fair to those of us who pay taxes to support the library and also pay taxes that support other facilities to provide for the homeless

Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West by Blaine Harden. This book. It is beyond disturbing, but eye-opening if you want to know what North Korea is really like, at least for those bred, born and brought up inside the huge political prison camps. I got it from the library, but apparently, it is free online: http://www.slideshare.net/arion2012/escape-from-camp-14 There are other versions available if you google 'escape from camp 14 pdf.'

The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What To Do About It, by: Michael E. Gerber.
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It. Great reading if you are thinking of setting up your own business, or indeed if you already have. #smallbusiness #marketing
The EMyth is probably one of the most famous small business marketing books and a must read if you are serious about marketing your business. This is the latest version I believe.
The E myth revisited- this book sucked, I don't know why it makes it on to all of the must read business book lists. I want my time back.
If you don't yet quite know what your business systems are or even what they should be, I recommend you start by working through The Emyth Revisited: Why Most Small Business Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber. The narrative style is a gentle way for you to approach a complex task.
The E-Myth Revisited ($11.27) - I would highly recommend this book to anyone starting or running a small business. - E-myth by Michael Gerber is one of the best business books I have ever read. - Read the book, think about it, see how it applies to your own business, then apply it in the ways you think will be most helpful to you. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000RO9VJK/hpb2-20/ASIN/B000RO9VJK
The Emyth Revisited: Why Most Small BUsiness Don't Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber. "Gerber walks you through the steps in the life of a business—from entrepreneurial infancy through adolescent growing pains to the mature entrepreneurial perspective: the guiding light of all businesses that succeed. . . . Most importantly, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business."
The Emyth Revisited, must read for any small business owner

A Handmaids Tale
Worth Reading, Margaret Atwood, Books Worth, Reading List, Handmaids Tale
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood: If you're too young to remember this book or the movie made from it, read it before Election Day!
The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. A futuristic dystopian novel about women who are subjugated to serve the procreative 'needs' of the Republic of Gilead, a new society ran by misogynistic dicatators who control women's freedom and sexual liberty.
Another pinner wrote: margaret atwood - THE HANDMAID'S TALE "Of the 6000 books Margaret Atwood has written, this novel in which America is finally taken over by religious crazies, with disastrous effects on gender relations in particular, is her dystopian masterpiece."
The description caught me... Any pretense of objectivity must be here dispensed. I love this book. More than that, I have a level of nostalgia for this book rivaled only by the Harry Potter series that so consumed my childhood. The Handmaid's Tale was the first book I read that truly impacted me in a literary way, and by that I simply mean it isn't a novel of sheer plot; aesthetics, politics, and subtext dominate.
"But who can remember pain, once it’s over? All that remains of it is a shadow, not in the mind even, in the flesh. Pain marks you, but too deep to see. Out of sight, out of mind." The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Pinner writes: "A dystopian novel in a totalitarian, theocratic future, where women are subjugated, reduced to nothing more than their fertility. Beautifully crafted, engaging, and chilling."
“The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. A gripping vision of our society radically overturned by a theocratic revolution, Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale has become one of the most powerful and most widely read novels of our time. Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pr

Sarah Waters is an incredible author. Her books are ALL worth reading, but this one is my favorite. I love the way it opens a window on so many walks of life in Victorian England, and I love the honesty of the narrative.

Bestseller Books Online Tipping the Velvet: A Novel Sarah Waters $10.88 - http://www.ebooknetworking.net/books_detail-1573227889.html
Tipping the Velvet This never did make the cut for Book Club BUT I loved it. Great read.
Tipping the Velvet: A Novel by Sarah Waters - So much of this book feels warm and inviting, just like the movie. Nan Astley falls in love with a male impersonator and follows her to London. The book was more realistic and less idealistically romantic than the movie. I appreciate the realism of the characters and how Kitty and Walter aren't two dimensional the way they are in the movie. The book is also much more honest about the hardships of being a lesbian in Victorian era London.
Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters All time favorite book :)

Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power by Rachel Maddow is so worth reading and it's chock-full of stuff that's actually worth talking about. It's not trumped pundit propaganda about whatever legislator's supposed war on whatever American way of life. It's about actual war and its repercussions on actual American life. It's well-researched & well-presented. There are lots of paradigm shifting big ideas that are worthy of debate.

Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East by Scott Anderson | Based on years of intensive primary document research, this book definitively overturns received wisdom on how the modern Middle East was formed. Sweeping in its action, keen in its portraiture, acid in its condemnation of the destruction wrought by European colonial plots, this is a book that brilliantly captures the way in which the folly of the past creates the anguish of the present.
