Three Great Flowers To Plant Right Now

Mexican mint marigold (Tagetes lucida). It grows about three feet tall and wide and is perennial in USDA Zones 8-10 and annual north of that. Its smooth, narrow leaves carry the unmistakeable fragrance and flavor of tarragon, which makes it a valuable addition to your Southern herb and vegetable garden. Showy yellow flowers in late summer and fall are a bonus. How to grow: Give the plant full sun and well-drained soil. It’s trouble-free and tolerates drought. Floresflowers.com

Our first project for United Way was at the Gladden Farms Elementary School, adjacent to our Somerset at Gladden Farms community, building garden planters. There were a total of ten planters with the team hauling two tons of dirt to fill them. The kids at the school will plant flowers and vegetables in the coming weeks. The school opened this fall and has been great for our sales efforts so it was a natural choice for giving back.
