A Starter Swim Workout: Getting Back Into Swimming It’s approaching summer so this means pool time! Swimming is great fun, but it also has great impacts on your body. You burn calories, you stay cool and it has such a slimming effect on your body!! It’s important, like with any sport, to warm up before you start swimming intensely. Break up your warm ups into 50-100 yards stints of freestyle, back stroke and breast stroke to really warm up  every muscle in your body.   For your main event of swimming, combine distance of 50-200 yards of different strokes. Allow yourself to have rest stops if you’re feeling breathless, as you don’t want to put yourself off if you begin to struggle for breath mid-swim. To cool down, choose your strokes and lower the intensity.   If you’re a nervous swimmer, break down your swimming into small sessions so that you don’t ever feel anxious. Wear a good costume, get good goggles and even find classes if you feel this might build your confidence in the beginning.
