It is based on: clearly defined division of labour, checks & balances bet. different institutions, etc. The inherent dynamism & sophistication of this indigenous African political system is revealed.  Legasse shows, in clear & lucid language, the system's long & distinguished history; during which said institutions changed by deliberate legislation to evolve & adapt through time.
