A Father gives his daughter this ring for her 16th birthday (when dating is officially allowed) to wear on her left ring finger--to remind her that she will always be HIS little Princess first-- and to remind her to only date boys who will treat her like a Queen--the way her Heavenly Father sees her!!

Beautiful, but highly uncomfortable and impractical. That thing would get caught on everything, and can you even imagine trying to do your hair with that on - ouch. I can see the girl putting that right back in its box before the day is even over.

^ lol!! Well yeah, the notion that a ring will actually stop hormonal teenagers from doing what they want is a bit far off ... But there are those out there who actually think this works better than sex ed courses. Statistically schools that have sexual education courses have fewer teenage pregnancies amongst their students than those who go with abstinence only.

I have a claddaugh ring that has a crown on it and it rarely gets caught in my curly hair. The sentiment is a little odd to me, but the ring itself is quite pretty.

creepy. Why would a man think of his daughter as his sexual property?

    Beautiful ring; icky concept.

Pretty ring, but the idea of a teenaged girl being her fathers sexual property to control is kind of gross. No one should have someone else in charge of their sexuality. Plus, man wouldn't give one of these to his son.

Exactly Kim...saw this pin on an article in Gawker I think. Stunningly creepy.

This is the creepiest and sickest thing I've seen in a while. Nothing says "I love you, daughter" than a ring to symbolize that she's nothing more than a piece of property.

So glad we're still in an era where thinking of your daughter as your PROPERTY is considered sweet. Creepy. Creepy. Wrong.

A daughter's intact hymen is her father's property to negotiate away, like livestock, to a worthy beau for his personal, child-creating use.

Disturbing. A parent's job is to encourage independence and self knowledge so she can make choices that best suit her - not forward her father's agenda.

Should be flagged as inappropriate. Attacks a particular group (women) by promoting their subordination (as property).

So, basically, it means the father owns his daughter AND her vagina until she is married. At that point, her husband gets to own her vagina and can use it as he pleases. But what about sons? If we take this extremely primitive, barbaric, and creepy idea to its logical conclusions, it means that a son's penis is also someone's property. But whose? His mother's? Can a mom give a promise ring to a boy on his 16th birthday, saying that he is mommy's little prince until his queen comes along to claim him? Or does dad own the boy's sexuality, as well? Exactly what rights do girls and women have in these slave-like relationships encouraged by the uber-religious?

I am kind of over this princess culture. I want my father to give me a bow and arrow for my birthday so I can kick ass and hunt my own food.

ew, this is so creepy! Why are women seen as property to be "kept" and passed from one man to another? What if the daughter isn't straight and never has the right to marry who she wants? What if the daughter never marries? Virginity isn't the only way to measure a girl or woman's worth. We have all kinds of other ways to contribute value than not having sex.
