Easy Canopy Create this dreamy headboard from a DIY cornice, window treatments, and a padded board. To make the padded headboard, choose a piece of plywood the width of your bed, top with a layer of foam, cover with fabric, and secure to plywood with a staple gun. I have lots of windows!!! BHG Two single window panels are the perfect alternative to an ordinary headboard. To get this look, find windows that measure approximately the width of your mattress. Gather Antiques: Combine a variety of pieces to create a cohesive look. Here, a 19th-century carpenter's workbench stands in as a console table. The raw, unfinished wood fits perfectly in the rustic space. Artwork hung from S hooks and chains on a wrought-iron curtain rod forms a unique gallery. Give the gallery arrangement a cohesive look by choosing one shape for all the frames.
Curtain Case ~ Consider using a curtain panel as a headboard. They take the room to new heights by extending the eye upwards, and add a jolt of pattern to a blank wall. Simply install a curtain rod on the wall above your bed and hang a curtain from it, using decorating hooks for extra panache. (Personally, I would add two or more curtains to give it a more full look.)
Branch Out Pruners, a relatively straight tree branch, white spray paint -- voila! A nature-inspired, functional work of art. Use tie-top curtains to adjust for the curves of the branch -- no rings or clips needed.
My home decor is Global-inspired in reds and golds like in this pic, and I have been wanting to buy burlap coffee bean sacks (like what's on the headboard) from Central America (where my mom's family is from) in order to make pillow cases for my sofa. I think they would look really nice, and would go with the global theme too!
