And so, Stanley Yelnats seems set to serve an easy sentence, which is only fair because he is as innocent as you or me. But Stanley is not going where he thinks he is. Camp Green Lake is like no other camp anywhere. Nor is it a camp, at least not the kind of camp kids look forward to in the summertime. It is a place that once held "the largest lake in Texas," but today it is only a scorching desert wasteland, dotted with countless holes dug by the boys who live at the camp.

OK I know this is a kid's book but who didn't LOVE this book? It's one of my top ten favorite books in the entire universe! It was funny, serious, and dealt with a lot of sensitive topics. I give it an 85. Also, the movie was awesome and very close to the book!
Love this book! -- Sachar, Louis Holes 1999 As further evidence of his family's bad fortune which they attribute to a curse on a distant relative, Stanley Yelnats is sent to a hellish correctional camp in the Texas desert where he finds his first real friend, a treasure, and a new sense of himself.
Holes, Louis Sachar - who cares if it's a kids book - love this little knot of stories that finally unravels into one neat tale.

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - was the No. 28 most banned and challenged title 2000-2009 The book was banned for profanity and it's use of "Oh Lord." it is about two introverted children who create a magical forest. I would read this with my older students if I was teaching 5th grade perhaps and have them write a journal for each couple chapters and go in depth of the main characters.

the outsiders; Hinton's best
Books Movies, The Outsiders, Young Adult, High School, Books I Ve, Books Books, Favorite Books, Time Favorite, Stay Gold
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is definitely one of the best classic novels read in high schools. Although the novel is based on two gangs of boys, “greasers” and the “Socs” it is a great read for both male and female audiences, as it is relatable to the young adult audience and holds strong messages in the themes such as, friendship, love, and loss. (Francesca)
From blog post titled 'S.E Hinton’s ‘The Outsiders’ and Why We Don’t Stay Gold': "‘Stay gold Ponyboy,’ says Johnny before he dies. It is a line from S. E. Hinton’s seminal Young Adult book The Outsiders that has entrenched itself in our culture. It is about not losing all of our innocence and it may seem hopelessly melodramatic, but as Hinton says herself, it works, ‘because kids feel that way.’"
The Outsiders - Back in high school, I was Ponyboy. This book spoke to me in so many ways; it is honest, true, and has many great applicable morals. Definitely top notch. Stay gold, Ponyboy.
The Outsiders. One of my all time favorite books as a young girl. I cried when I finished reading it because it was over.
The Outsiders - I remember reading this in school then watching the movie. One of my favorite books, ever...Stay gold.
(*One of my all time favorite books. I was about 13 or 14 when I first read this book and I could swear that the author followed me around my whole life and wrote down everything I'd ever felt. It made a powerful impact on me. I related to so many of the characters, I felt they were my friends.Stay gold,Ponyboy, stay gold._LL)
Outsiders, The By: Susan E. Hinton Lost References: In the flashback scene in the van, Hurley's friend Johnny says to him, "Stay gold, Ponyboy." This is a quote from the Outsiders, which is itself a reference to the Robert Frost poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay". In the novel, Johnny Cade's last words are "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold." ("Everybody Hates Hugo")
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton one of my all time favorite books/movie
What Are Grown-Ups Afraid of in YA Books? - BOOK RIOT
The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill A Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and a critical success when it was first published in 1960. It went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and was later made into an Academy Award-winning film, also a classic.

To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee. Is this one of your favourite books? Have you already read it? If not then you should put it in your To-Do list http://circleme.com/items/to-kill-a-mockingbird--5
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books that I've read in class throughout my whole high school career. Scout is a young girl who has a strong sense of justice, and her character is really the main highlight of the book for me.
To Kill a Mockingbird: Harper Lee - One of my all time favorite books and movie adaptations, and I get something out of it with each reading. This is storytelling in rare form; Lessons are scarce in today's reality TV atmosphere. This is a book that will help you escape.
To Kill a Mockingbird: Harper Lee - One of my all time favorite books of al time. A BEAUTIFUL piece of literature, with a serious life lessons I still carry around.

Life of Pi Yann Martel. A worthy, well-written, creative novel, which was almost universally despised by every member of my book club. Discussion was brief because most did not buy into the fantastical tale.
Life of Pi: Yann Martel: -Read, odd but entertaining, could have done without the interview in the end.
Life of Pi - Yann Martel - Although they have just released the movie I would recommend reading the book, worth the read.
Elizabeth's lovely review, now posted on the BookerMarks site. Book Review: 2002 Winner: Yann Martel's Life of Pi
Life of Pi / Yann Martel ~ Life of Pi is a masterful and utterly original novel that is at once the story of a young castaway who faces immeasurable hardships on the high seas, and a meditation on religion, faith, art and life that is as witty as it is profound. Using the threads of all of our best stories, Yann Martel has woven a glorious spiritual adventure that makes us question what it means to be alive, and to believe.

High School, Big Brother, Books Books, Book Covers, Favorite Books, Classic Books, 1984 George
Another great in my opinion. This iconic book about totalitarian authority has influenced english language and culture more than i think even Orwell imagined. Its influences even stretch so far as to sparking the idea for popular C4/5 show Big Brother. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=henqOo387-E 1984 http://www.litlovers.com/reading-guides/13-fiction/746-1984-orwell
Classic book about becoming automatons of the state and desperately trying to maintain personal freedom.
Reseñas: 1984 (George Orwell). Una novela de "ficción", mucho más realista de lo que piensas. http://unlibrobajoelarbol.blogspot.com.es/2015/12/resenas-1984-george-orwell_7.html
"Nineteen Eighty-Four" is a novel by George Orwell published in 1949. It is a dystopian novel about Oceania, a society tyrannized by The Party and its totalitarian ideology. As literary political fiction and as dystopian science-fiction, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic novel in content, plot, and style. Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother, doublethink, thoughtcrime, Newspeak, and memory hole, have entered everyday use since its publication.
1984 by Orwell. If he knew what the world was like now .... The original Big Brother.
1984. My favorite book in high school. I still love a great dystopian story.

BOOKS WORTH READING: Lois Lowry’s "The Giver" is the perfect dystopian novel, with one atypical feature, its characters live in a world of peace and control. Need to read list
Personally, I suggest ignoring the movie, which, though well cast, was not a great adaptation of the first book in this trilogy. Cornelia Funke takes readers on a fantasy journey into the power of books. Along the way, you'll meet several well-rounded characters and explore themes of family ties, good versus evil, loyalty, courage, and love.

INK HEART BY CORNELIA FUNKE book cover (novel, book jacket, art, illustration, photography, publishing)
Inkheart by: Cornelia Funke The first book in the Inkheart series. Genre: Fantasy. The words "bringing a character to life" take on a whole new meaning in this amazing novel.
Inkheart -- Cornelia Funke. - Meggie lives a quiet life alone with her father, a book-binder. But her father has a deep secret — he posseses an extraordinary magical power. One day a mysterious stranger arrives who seems linked to her father's past. Who is this sinister character and what does he want? -- This may be for grades 4-7, but I certainly enjoyed it - 71 year old... Don't miss her other books!

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte One of the books I read this month. Haven't read it since high school. I had forgotten how wonderful it is.
Jane Eyre! Most really hated this book when we had to read it in hs, but to this day, it is one of my all time favorite books <3
Favorite book. Jane Eyre is a gothic novel written by Charlotte Bronte (1847) full of dark mystery, romance, and a reflection upon the author's life. Oliver Twist has nothing on Jane Eyre; sorry Dickens.
Jane Eyre had a huge impact on me. It's a book that I could read a million times, and every single time, I could find something new. Rochester is one of my all time favorite literary characters. I always loved the setup of the story -- seeing her childhood and then jumping to adulthood. Which, of course, I did in my own book. Thanks Charlotte Bronte. (And this is even the cover and version I always read - until it fell apart)
