There are so many crazy gadgets being sold on infomercials that promise you six pack abs or hard rock abs. Most people don’t consider using a chin up bar when it comes to getting stronger abdominal muscles. It is considered one of the most unconventional ab workouts. Chin up bars are usually advertised as a device for doing pull ups, which is primarily a lat exercise. It is true that a chin up bar can effectively work your latissimus Dorsi muscles, but it is also true that it can work your abdominal muscles as well. There are two prominent abdominal exercises to do on the chin up bar, which are both hanging ab workouts. One is knee raises, which is simply hanging from the chin up bar and raising your knees all the way up to chest level. Then, you just lower your legs back down slowly. It is vital you don’t swing your legs or use momentum to get your legs up or else the exercise won’t serve its purpose of strengthening your abdominals. Once you get good at this exercise you can start getting creative to make it more challenging. You can attach some ankle weights while doing it to make it harder, which will strengthen your abdominals even more. Another exercise you can do on the chin up bar is leg raises, which is similar to the knee raises. The only difference is that you extend your legs straight out in front of you when you raise them up to chest level. Some personal trainers will tell you that knee raises are the better of the two hanging ab workouts. However, both are effective for targeting the abs, and it should be left up to the individual to decide which they prefer.
