ADINKRA CLOTH PRINTING: Wooden planks resting on blocks were covered with a 1" thick piece of foam rubber. Several symbols (which have specific meanings) were chosen from an adinkra chart, then Gabriel Boayke selected the stamps and Anthony Boakye decided their placement on the cloth.
An old and well used (circa 1950) Bedu vertical plank mask. Dimensions: Length 65 inches /165 cm. This mask appears to have been either village-repaired or made in two pieces joined by nailing a strip of salvaged metal packing case strapping acccross the vertical section in the centre. Three other cracks in this old mask have also been repaired with scraps of metal strapping
RH's Clay Bead Empire Chandelier 36":Sculptural and dramatic, our beaded chandelier combines a classic French Empire form with a unique South African point of view. Talented local women in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands hand-roll each bead from recycled paper clay. The natural-hued beads are then dried in the sun, dip-dyed, kiln fired and hand-strung on a wrought-iron framework.
