Pierre Fauchard (1678-1761) was a French physician credited as being the "father of modern dentistry". His seminal textbook, Le chirurgien dentiste, "The Surgeon Dentist," was published in 1728. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Fauchard and his book, designed and engraved by Albert Decaris after a portrait by French painter J. Le Bel, and issued by France on July 1, 1961 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Fauchard's death, Scott No. 1003, Y&T No. 1307.
