Mudbound by Hillary Jordan Wednesday Night Book Club, August Selection
Mudbound by Hillary Jordan - In 1946, Laura McAllan tries to adjust after moving with her husband and two children to an isolated cotton farm in the Mississippi Delta.
Sam is reading MUDBOUND by Hillary Jordan with her bookclub. A subtle, layered account of living in the American South in the mid-1940s, this story does a great job of showing how one person’s perspective can vary so much from another’s. A little like Faulkner, but with at least a few characters you like and can root for.

At the beginning of the movie, Elizabeth is shown reading a novel titled “First Impressions”, this was Jane Austen´s original title of her novel before she altered it to “Pride and Prejudice”. Additionally the text of the visible pages is readable when paused (see the pic in High-res); it is the last chapter of Pride and Prejudice, with names changed.

This book, initially published in 1908, is a classic in books for children. Its four key animal characters combine to create a magical quality that is irresistible. At a child’s level, the story is about friendship and about life in an imagined world centered around the river. At a more sophisticated level, without being preachy, it yields some key insights into our lives. And it does all this via an enormously rich language that does wonders for children’s verbal skills.
