A Birdhouse for Humans and Birds: Bird Apartment Treehouse by Nendo. #design

  • Fiona Reid

The tree house 'bird apartment' by Nendo, located in a forest in Komoro City in Japan's mountainous Nagano Prefecture. The treehouse has entrances to 78 nest spaces for birds on one side, and a viewing space for one person on the other.

  • Cristina Botef

The creative designers at Nendo have wowed us again by creating a tree house for humans that doubles as a sanctuary for nesting birds. This “Bird Apartment” was installed in Komoro City, Japan at the Ando Momofuku Center, whose mission is to promote access to nature. The structure’s design pushes the center’s vision to a whole new level by allowing visitors within the human dwelling to get a spyglass look into each of the 78 bird homes.

Photo by Masaya Yoshimura. Nendo built this tree house "bird-apartment" structure for the Momofuku Ando Centre - committed to promoting access to nature - in the forest of Komoro City in Japan. The dwelling takes on the typical iconic house profile, divided in two. One side features 78 nest spaces for birds, while the other has an opening for one person to enter and peer into the birds' nests from inside the tree house. Source: Designboom (web).
