With Love & Sweat ~ "Bars" quilt, made by Lutisha Pettaway (Pettway) c.1950 of worn denim work clothes. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The women of Gee's Bend (Boykin), Alabama have a rich & unique history of hand-quilting. Since that day in 1998 when art historian Bill Arnett tracked down the Gee's Bend woman whose quilt had captivated him from a photograph, these women's lives haven't been the same. Great article. "Pour 2 cups of CLUB SODA directly in the center of a fire ant mound. The carbon dioxide in the water is heavier than air and displaces oxygen which suffocates the queen and the other ants. The whole colony will be dead within about two days. Each mound must be treated individually and a one liter bottle of club soda will kill 2 to 3 mounds." Yet *another* thing to try :-)

Celandine poppy (Stylophorum diphyllum), or wood poppy, is native to the moist, shady woodlands of Appalachia from western Pennsylvania south to northern Georgia & west to Missouri. The toxic yellow sap has been used as a dye, among other things, by Native Americans. This dyeing property is evident in that it will discolor any clothing it soaks into. The sap can also irritate the skin. Greater celandine (Chelidonium majus) is often confused with celandine poppy. #South #Southern #wildflower
