Spectacular technical skill displayed here. Great bokeh and rich colors. too many would make the mistake of photographing from the light side when exposing for the shadows gives the wings such beautiful highlights. Beautiful birds on the wing feasting on red berries!
I think I have figured out why this bird is called a violet-ear I've been in the hummingbird aviary at the zoo a lot. I've seen this bird pretty much every time. Today was the first time I saw it do this. Another bird was getting a drink or something above it and it got mad. These ear-flaps suddenly flipped up and it chittered up a storm.
The Streak-backed Oriole (Icterus pustulatus) is a medium-sized species of passerine bird from the icterid family (the same family as many blackbirds, meadowlarks, cowbirds, grackles, and others, including the New World orioles). It is native to Central America and Mexico and is an occasional visitor to the United States.
