Shadow Artist, THE COUNTRY GENTLEMAN, February 7, 1920 (oil on canvas). Shadow Artist is reminiscent of the pantomime shows that appeared in vaudeville programs during Rockwell's youth. The scene is presented from the point of view of the children who watch the shadow maker in awe.

I love art so much. The one thing that I want to do someday before I die, that is just a personal desire, is go to Paris and sit for hours in the Louvre Museum. One of my all time favorite is American artist, Norman Rockwell. Even though he was just considered a illustrator, I find that his art came from a deep part of him. His ability to capture expression is astounding to me. His work has the ability to make me laugh, smile, cry and feel. He is truly an amazing artist in my book. This first piece just makes me laugh. I'll never have enough time to paint all the pictures I'd like to. -Norman Rockwell He painted over 4,000 pieces! Some people have been kind enough to call me a fine artist. I've always called myself an illustrator. I'm not sure what the difference is. All I know is that whatever type of work I do, I try to give it my very best. Art has been my life. -Norman Rockwell I have this one hanging in my kitchen...it makes me smile! I just love art, it really helps me.... GET JOY! There is a great biography of him here!

Shiner (Girl with Black Eye) Giclee Print A shot in the iconic film "Forrest Gump" includes a recreation of Rockwell's "Girl with Black Eye," featuring Forrest instead of a girl. Much of the film's visual aesthetic is said to be inspired by Rockwell's art.
The scene where Forrest sits in the hallway of his school while his mother talks to the principal was inspired by the Norman Rockwell painting Girl with a Black Eye.

Norman Rockwell art - this brings to mind two things for me - I loved to play marbles and we never wore pants when I was a little girl.
"Marble Champion" by Norman Rockwell. Did you ever play marbles! I did. We would draw a circle in the dirt and take out our aggies, boulders, pee-wees! What childhood fun!
This Norman Rockwell painting reminds me of when I was a child and I beat my brother playing marbles. The annoyed look on the one boy's face is just like he used to look.
Marble Champion (1939) I had an AMAZING marble collection when I was a kid! Love this photo! Look at the intent expression on the little girl's face as she 'goes for the kill'.

Vintage beauty shop decor, this illustration will add a fun vintage touch to your hair salon, beauty shop, beauty parlor -- whatever you want to call it! Or just put it on your bathroom wall, to gaze at as you fix your hair. This artwork is from the cover of a 1960's era magazine (Saturday Evening Post). It's beautifully detailed, warm and funny, and a nostalgic piece of Americana -- the beauty parlor. It is also pitch-perfect for its time -- the design of the chairs, the magazine rack, the lady in the back getting her "comb-out" -- and of course, the little cowboy front and center, probably lulled to sleep by all those dryers. This would look great on a hair salon wall, or gracing a bathroom or even bedroom wall. The ad is extracted from a large-format magazine from 1961. NOTE: You are buying the ad only (NO mat or frame). Photos2, 3 and 5 show a frame that is NOT included, it is simply computer-generated to show you a couple of the possibilities for framing this yourself. FULL PAGE DIMENSION (each page): Approx 10 " x 14" CONDITION: Vintage condition. This was a magazine cover, so expect some wear and evidence of handling. Chip and roughness along spine edge. Please inspect photos. Thanks for visiting DustyDiggerLise!
