FEIST poster. This is one of my favorite gig posters. I've seen it on Pinterest several times (and have it pinned to another board). The overlapping colors in balloon shapes as well as the slanted angle gives it motion. The very simple, thin, sans serif typeface is perfect. It's so eye-catching and memorable!

Feist: The Reminder (2007) This is a new cover on the block -- how can an image become "iconic" after only one year? We're mesmerized by the rainbow swash (or is that a nerve chart?) behind Mary Rozzi's backlit silhouette shot of the artist, signifying her colorful singing and many-mooded songs.

Nina Simone - Her musical style arose from a fusion of gospel and pop songs with classical music, in particular with influences from her first inspiration, Johann Sebastian Bach, and accompanied with her expressive jazz-like singing in her characteristic low tenor. She injected as much of her classical background into her music as possible to give it more depth and quality, as she felt that pop music was inferior to classical. / My Dad adored her voice and singing style. Nina Simone, 1965. Born Eunice Kathleen Waymon (1933-2003), Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist widely associated with jazz music. Her musical style arose from a fusion of gospel and pop songs with classical music, accompanied with her expressive jazz-like singing in her characteristic low tenor.

Nina Simone would have turned 80 years old today Born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in Tryon, North Carolina, she changed her name to Nina Simone (“Nina” meaning “little one” and “Simone” after the actress Simone Signoret) after she began singing in bars early in her career, something her Methodist minister mother none too subtly referred to as “working in the fires of hell.” This photo I am sharing today is my favorite of Ms. Simone, a stunning shot by Pittsburgh photography icon Charles “Teenie” ...

ok, so I've never met him...but Rodney did! Rod was 21 at Icehouse in Mac and a group of people came in and an old man laid quarters on pool table. Rod beat him and shook his hand. Rod asked if he was from here and Mr. Cash replied, "Son, I'm Johnny Cash." Rod was floored. Drank beers with him, too.

I often write to the music of Johnny Cash. In All the Pretty Bodies, Sylvie James is the woman in black.
“I wore black because I liked it. I still do, and wearing it still means something to me. It's still my symbol of rebellion -- against a stagnant status quo, against our hypocritical houses of God, against people whose minds are closed to others' ideas.” ― Johnny Cash
The "Man in Black"! Johnny Cash was one "Bad Mother Fucker!" One of my Father's favorite Country Singers. I didn't "Understand" when listening to him as a youngster. Now as a Man, I finally got it., I "Understand"!

The Iconic Johnny Cash! The man in black.
<3 Well, you wonder why I always dress in black, Why you never see bright colors on my back, And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone. Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on. I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town, I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there because he's a victim of the times. I wear the black for those who never read, Or listened to the words that Jesus said, About the road to happiness through love and charity, Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me. Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose, In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes, But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back, Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black. I wear it for the sick and lonely old, For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold, I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been, Each week we lose a hundred fine young men. And, I wear it for the thousands who have died, Believen' that the Lord was on their side, I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died, Believen' that we all were on their side. Well, there's things that never will be right I know, And things need changin' everywhere you go, But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right, You'll never see me wear a suit of white. Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, And tell the world that everything's OK, But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, 'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.
