This 19" diameter Saraz has a 10 note hexatonic variation of Eb Minor. The top shell features a dreamy, soothing, and meandering pentatonic variation of the scale. The minor 3rd scale degree (Gb4) is on the bottom shell of the instrument and offers a bit more traditional minor darkness. Also on the bottom shell is a 3rd octave (Eb5), which adds high end resolve.
E/ B C D E F# G B The second Saraz built from a Deep Drawn shell. Interesting material with some interesting differences relative to our hammer shaped shells or the rolled shells we have used in the past.
Cutting open a Saraz handpan. We find a sledge hammer hitting the back of a machete does the best job after hammering a small knife in between shells in order to open up an area to get the machete in. Correctly cured glue is incredibly strong!
