We done some fun Halloween similes in my class with the sixth graders this year, and that work clearly inspired Max's tribute to the monsters of Halloween here. He only entered the colored page in the contest, but I loved his zombie-compared-to-6th-grader piece he's working on now enough to show it to you too. Mr. Stick is at my website: http://corbettharrison.com/Mr_Stick.html

I have two sets of twins: a 6th grade duo and a 7th grade duo. It must have been "Twin Week" for the Mr. Stick Contest, because one half of each set won the award. Here, seventh grader Austin was inspired by the trivia fact of the day about the word "arctophile."

Even though you don't need to name your character "Mr. Stick" if you are entering my "Mr. Stick of the Week" notebook page contest, a lot of my kids do. 7th grader Henry, for example, has many different adventures for "Mr. Stick" throughout his notebook. I think this one, involving Mr. Stick and a cat, is a nice example of a story that can be written in two ten-minute sessions of Sacred Writing Time.
