Six Word Memoir - Have students write one at the beginning of the school year at the middle school level instead of the same old "get to know you" activities. Could also be a great kick-off to Poetry Workshop.
My wife and I invented a word game in the car on our trip to Oregon this summer: creating fake collective nouns that sound like they might be real collective nouns. Of course the idea became a new page in my writer's notebook!
