Fake headstones! My history teacher has students design headstones for historical figures, which is admittedly dark but the kids like it. Many of them start creating headstones for silly things in their writer's notebooks for me afterwards, as 6th grader Audrey did here; one of her notebook pages ripped out, so she wrote about burying it on a later page in her notebook. My online writer's notebook resources are here: http://corbettharrison.com/writers_notebooks.html

My 7th graders were analyzing the epistolary story "Ordeal by Cheque," (http://corbettharrison.com/documents/OrdealbyCheque.pdf) and 8th grader Patrick was intrigued by my essential question still on the whiteboard: "Who is Tony Spagoni?" Without evening knowing the story, he created this funny little one-page tribute that used Mr. Stick, so he earned a "Mr. Stick of the Week" award. Thanks for always making me laugh, Patrick!
