“Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba.” This quote caught my attention due to the vivid imagery that it produced. It is an utterly grim thing to think about, yet Hassan is so easily comparable to a lamb that it almost seems realistic. Nevertheless what Amir says is too true, that nothing is free. To win Baba, he must slay Hassan, and Hassan must let himself be slain as a price for being loyal to Amir.
