Goddess Aphrodite (Venus) Greek Roman Mythology Statue Sculpture

The bronze statue of David (circa 1440s) was sculpted by Donatello and is famous as the first unsupported standing work of bronze cast during the Renaissance, and the first freestanding nude male sculpture made since antiquity. It depicts David with an enigmatic smile, posed with his foot on Goliath's severed head just after defeating the giant.

This statue is a first-century A.D. Roman copy of a Greek bronze original dated around 430 B.C. The original bronze probably stood in a sanctuary such as that at Olympia or Delphi, where games were regularly held. Ancient literary accounts and over forty known copies attest to the original bronze being one of the most highly esteemed creations of Polykleitos, who sought to represent the nude male figure with perfect harmony among all parts and according to principles that could be reproduced

In 1888, Louis Dewailly, mayor of Amiens, decided to construct a clock near the railway station. The iron column was built in rococo style. A few years later, sculptor Albert Roze added a bronze statue of a woman-- the goddess of spring. The people of Amiens baptised her "Marie Sans Chemise". This became a place where lovers meet each other. The beautiful clock on this piece was lost in the Second World War but a replica was made in 2000. The background is the Cathedral of Amiens.

Yes, you recognize this goddess from our Statue of Liberty and Hollywood. Who is she? The Spirit of Democracy. Help: illuminating from above, equal light for all. Please remember this as you treat your neighbor, yourself, and even your enemies with courtesy. As Greg Braden asserts: "When you pray, you must pray for the victim, the perpetrator AND the witness." All three. The holy triad. fr:
