As if there wasn't enough tension between the Western world and Islam, an amateur video from the U.S. released last week portraying the prophet Muhammad as a rapist amongst other things, has sparked anti-American backlash throughout Northern Africa, Asia and the Middle East. It is hard to know what direction this anger and violence is heading but this certainly isn't improving the relationship between the U.S. and the Middle East.

The upcoming 2012 presidential election will without a doubt make an impact on the spirit of the times. It appears that the apparel industry will play a roll once again in trying to sway voters. Runway to Win sells apparel products by designers like Thakoon, Tory Burch, Derek Lam, and Marc Jacobs that support the re-election of Barack Obama. Combining a political statement with fashion certainly isn't a new concept, but may serve as indicator of what is to come.

A Russian punk band was arrested five months ago on charges of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred when they performed an anti-Putin song at Moscow's main cathedral. Supporters of the band will mobilize this week in at least a two dozen cities worldwide to hold simultaneous demonstrations an hour before a Russian court rules on whether its members will be sent to prison. This raises questions about censorship and rebellion, look for bright dresses and balaclava like those worn by the band.
