My absolute favorite book. I've read it over and over. Where the Red Fern Grows is a novel written by Wilson Rawls in 1961 about a boy who buys and trains two Redbone Coonhound hunting dogs <3 Love this book!
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls --- This was Chad's favorite book...may well have been the only one he actually finished, but he liked it so much that he told me the whole story. ~MEMORIES~
Where the Red Fern Grows ~ my all-time favorite book as a youth. Still love it - many, many years later.
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. My book. My all time favorite book as a kid.
THE BOOK that EVERY child should have read to them!! I read this to my children when they were small (4 kids ages 2-7). We read two chapters a night (even though they would BEG me to read "just one more chapter"). I laughed out loud while reading this....and found myself trying to read through a haze of tears. It is just a beautiful story about a boy and his dogs. Very touching...and so worth reading over and over again. (All of my children have re-read this story on their own...several times).

A foundling, an old book of dark fairy tales, a secret garden, an aristocratic family, a love denied, and a mystery. The Forgotten Garden is a captivating, atmospheric and compulsively readable story of the past, secrets, family and memory from the international best-selling author Kate Morton.
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. A foundling, an old book of dark fairy tales, a secret garden, an aristocratic family, a love denied, and a mystery.
January Book Club read. It was a long book but very interesting...wove different lives and generations together into a sad but inspiring story.
Owes a lot to The Secret Garden. A mystery that runs across continents and generations and ends in a cottage, where really everything should end.
Great Book! Book Club Selection. Quotes: “A girl expecting rescue never learns to save herself. Even with the means, she will find her courage wanting.” “Cassandra always hid when she read, though she never quite knew why. It was as if she couldn't shake the guilty suspicion that she was being lazy, that surrendering herself so completely to something so enjoyable must surely be wrong. But surrender she did. Let herself drop through the rabbit hole and into a tale of magic and mystery ...”
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton — Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists
One of my favorite books my book club has read!
I really became quite enchanted with this tale. The bewitching fairy tales and the charming cottage garden made the book enticing and captured me from the first few pages. Kate Morton did a beautiful job writing. I could picture, in my mind, all the events I was reading about … just like watching a movie that only I could see. I found myself wrapped up in a mystery that kept me guessing as to the outcome. The twist and turns, and all the transporting my thoughts to different time periods … kept me up all hours of the night reading. Here is a look at what “The Forgotten Garden” has to offer: Cassandra is lost, alone and grieving. Her much loved grandmother, Nell, has just died and Cassandra, her life already shaken by a tragic accident ten years ago, feels like she has lost everything dear to her. But an unexpected and mysterious bequest from Nell turns Cassandra's life upside down and ends up challenging everything she thought she knew about herself and her family. Inheriting a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early twentieth century - Cassandra takes her courage in both hands to follow in the footsteps of Nell on a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past; little knowing that in the process, she will also discover a new life for herself.
It is Book Club Friday again and I am linking up with Blonde, Undercover Blonde. This link up is every Friday and you can review any book that you like. So - head on over and find some great books to add to your list. Today I am reviewing The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. Here is the description from Amazon: A tiny girl is abandoned on a ship headed for Australia in 1913. She arrives completely alone with nothing but a small suitcase containing a few clothes and a single book—a beautiful volume of fairy tales. She is taken in by the dockmaster and his wife and raised as their own. On her twenty-fi rst birthday, they tell her the truth, and with her sense of self shattered and very little to go on, "Nell" sets out to trace her real identity. Her quest leads her to Blackhurst Manor on the Cornish coast and the secrets of the doomed Mountrachet family. But it is not until her granddaughter, Cassandra, takes up the search after Nell’s death that all the pieces of the puzzle are assembled. A spellbinding tale of mystery and self-discovery, The Forgotten Garden will take hold of your imagination and never let go. I really loved this book. So far I have loved the two books I have read by Kate Morton. It was a romantic mystery within a historic novel. I am a big fan of historic novels. My only problem with these books are that they are SO LONG. We are talking almost 600 pages. They are worth the time in the end. BOOK 5:12 FOR 2012****Click here for more books that I have read and reviewed and here for my ever growing list of books to read in the future.

One of my favorite books! Also available on Audible with Alice Walker as reader. Spectacular!
The Colour Purple - my favourite book to date.
The Color Purple by Alice Walker Rated 4.5 stars I love the movie The Color Purple. Heck, purple is my favorite color. I have read this book once before but so fast that I didn't retain much. This time around I paid attention. There are so many difference between the book and the movie. I won't get into the differences because well...you need to read them for yourself. I will say this, the movie added things or changed things for dramatic effect. There were also other events that were more mild than in the book. The relationship between Celie and Shug has more detail. In fact, all the relationships are deeper than those protrayed in the movie. Any opinions you may have formed about the character may just change as you get an expand view of them. The book is written in journal/letter form. If you remember the movie, Celie always said Dear God and then tell you about what's gonna on. Later when she finds Nettie letters Dear God turns to Dear Celie. This is how the entire books is written. There are no chapter just letter format. It is a fast read however, Celie's Dear God entries are written they way she speaks so words are not spelled correctly. This may slow you up a bit but not too much I think. This should go on you to be read list. Challenges: Heroines Bookshelf Reading Challenge 2011 Where Are You Reading? Round The World Passage 2011

my favourite book!
This Sunday the red carpet will be rolled out for Hollywood's elite. Three of the six nominees for Best Picture are based on novels. If you haven't had a chance to see the movies yet, this is your opportunity to dive into some fabulous stories. And since the authors hardly ever get a mention on Oscar night, the least you can do is buy their novel. Last year I nearly went through the television when everyone who accepted an award for HUGO, never once uttered the name, Brian Selznik. I guess an increase in sales is acknowledgement enough. And the nominees are... Life of Pi The Silver Linings Playbook Les Miserables Personally, I'm rooting for Life of Pi, not only because Yann Martel is Canadian (hooray) but it is an amazing story with scenes that will stay with you long after you read the last page. I haven't seen the movie yet because I loved the book so much. Do you have a favorite book you'd like to see made into a movie? Besides your own, that is ;)

one of my favorites!
Fitzgerald, High School, Dust Jacket, Favorite Book, Time Favorite, Dust Cover
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. A book I am so glad I was forced to read in high school...continues to be an all-time favorite.
This has been my favorite book ever since I was in high school and mesmerized by Fitzgerald's fascinating use of symbolism. Every summer I try to re-read my same copy from high school, using a different color pen each time so I can visually see how the story transforms as I get older.
One of my favorite books of all time. It helps that my beautiful city, Louisville, was an inspiration for Fitzgerald. I am impatiently waiting for the Baz Luhrman directed film to debut featuring the one and only Leonardo DiCaprio this summer.
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. Hands down my all time favorite book by my all time favorite author
All Time favorite book! First published in 1925, a novel by the American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Undeniably one of the greatest book jackets of all time.
Read this is high school and hated it. Re-read it at 36 and fell in love with Fitzgerald.
One of my all-time favorite book covers (but not so much the words inside)
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt and to upper board in blind, top edge trimmed others uncut. With the dust jacket. Housed in a dark green quarter morocco solander box made by The Chelsea Bindery. Foxing to page edges and the first and last gatherings, mild browning to the endpapers but an especially bright copy, tight and square in the slightly chipped dust jacket with a little professional repair. The folds have been internally strengthened and several tears repaired with retouching to the creases and rubbing. A very attractive copy, the brightness of the blue is especially good. First edition, first printing, first state of the text, first issue dust jacket. The copy is the correct first printing.
The Help, help indeed.
