A little patch of lawn goes a long way when designed to roll alongside a dimensional cut stone patio. We love the contrast of the dark charcoal stone and sharp green grass.

Trellis idea - side yard with hinges - so can be swung out of way

Alternative to typical concrete patio - beautiful. A very clever idea, I think, under shade where grass won't grow well.

Paving stones. with thyme/chamomile in between

White trellis and table of plants (1) From: Indulgy, please visit

Actual real pinecone rainchain at the Indiana Flower & Patio through March 17th...Indiana State Fairgrounds!!!'s work!
Donell Walton's work!

hmmmm....i'm thinking maybe pea gravel and pots of greenery may be the way to go in my woodsy, 'too shady to grow anything but moss' back yard! Some iron furniture, my birdbath...could work...

A little rustic. A little modern.

Terrace Sitting Room - This West Vancouver yard is divided into distinct living spaces, like this cosy sitting area. Make a vignette like this more intimate by adding an arbour overhead. Remember that backyards don't always have to be swathed in grass. Instead, create an inviting terrace like this one with a Pennsylvania bluestone floor. This way, plants and flowers take centre stage without competing with green grass. Also, choose simple patio furniture to keep a garden from looking too busy.

Perfect spot to entertain or just enjoy a book and a glass of wine.

Garden sitting area to just relax. Looks like vintage white wrought iron chair and foot stool. Faded orange and turquoise are lovely here.
