Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan, April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an African American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed "Lady Day." Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Wiki

BILLIE HOLIDAY FAMOUS BLUES SINGER
Donald O'Connor, Trumpeter Donald, Billie Holiday, Yourna Byrd, Billy Holiday, Donald Byrd, Lorraine Glover
NOT BILLIE HOLIDAY, but a pic I like anyway. This is either Lorraine Glover or Yourna Byrd on 48th Street, New York City c.1960 // by William Caxton. Both names have been mentioned for the wife of famous hard-bop trumpet player Donald Byrd.
The Jazz Scene 1960. William Claxton photographed jazz musicians for record labels. Credited as the wife of be-bop trumpeter Donald Byrd. Her name is Lorraine Glover and Byrds song Elgy stands for her initials. Or her name is Yourna Byrd. dont quote me.
Yourna Byrd, (also called Lorraine Glover) wife of Jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, photographed in 1960 by William Claxton. (Note: this is Not! Billie Holiday, despite being all over Pinterest wrongly labled.) Finally a correct attribution.
FAKE: This is often presented as being a photo of Billie Holiday. FACT: It's definitely not Billie but there's an argument over who it is. One camp says it is Lorraine (Yourna) Byrd, wife of trumpeter Donald Byrd on 48th St. Others insist it's Lorraine Glover in a photo by William Claxton. Both say it was taken in 1960.
Fake - A great photo, often mislabeled as "Young Billie Holiday." As several people have pointed out, the era is wrong. This lovely woman is Lorraine Glover-Yourna Byrd, wife of jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd. She was photographed on 48th Street in NYC in 1960 by William Claxton.
This is NOT Billie Holiday!!!!!!!!!! This is Lorraine Glover! Wife of Hardbop Trumpeter Donald Byrd
Not Billie Holiday - This is actually the wife of hard bop trumpet player Donald Byrd. Taken by William Claxton, 1960. There is on-going controversy about her name. Yourna Byrd vs. Lorraine Glover. One person stated that in Mr. Byrd's obituary that Lorraine Glover was listed as his wife, but he also recorded a song entitled Yourna that is said to be for his wife. Are they the same person? No matter, it's still not Lady Day!
Fake - A great photo, often mislabeled as "Young Billie Holiday." As several people have pointed out, the era is wrong. This lovely woman is Lorraine Glover(sometimes listed as Yourna Byrd - her nickname), wife of jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd. She was photographed on 48th Street in NYC in 1960 by William Claxton. Billie Holiday Downbeat New York, NY February 1947
Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Critic John Bush wrote that Holiday "changed the art of American pop vocals forever." She co-wrote only a few songs, but several of them have become jazz standards, notably "God Bless the Child", "Don't Explain", "Fine and Mellow", and "Lady Sings the Blues". She also became famous for singing "Easy Living", "Good Morning Heartache", and "Strange Fruit", a protest song which became one of her standards and was made famous with her 1939 recording. Music critic Robert Christgau called her "uncoverable, possibly the greatest singer of the century".
