Donald O'Connor, Trumpeter Donald, William Claxton, Billie Holiday, Billy Holiday, Donald Byrd, Lorraine Glover
The Jazz Scene 1960. William Claxton photographed jazz musicians for record labels. Credited as the wife of be-bop trumpeter Donald Byrd. Her name is Lorraine Glover and Byrds song Elgy stands for her initials. Or her name is Yourna Byrd. dont quote me.
Lorraine Glover, wife of Hardbop trumpeter Donald Byrd. Photo by William Claxton, 1960. NOT BILLIE HOLIDAY, NOT VALAIDA SNOW . Billie died in 1959.
" Young Billie Holiday" -------------"In fact this is Lorraine Glover, wife of famous hardbop trumpet player Donald Byrd. And it was shot by William Claxton in 1960. There are several books of Claxton’s work in which this photo is featured (usually just credited 'Mrs. Donald Byrd')."
FAKE: This is often presented as being a photo of Billie Holiday. FACT: It's definitely not Billie but there's an argument over who it is. One camp says it is Lorraine (Yourna) Byrd, wife of trumpeter Donald Byrd on 48th St. Others insist it's Lorraine Glover in a photo by William Claxton. Both say it was taken in 1960.
A great photo, often mislabeled as "Young Billie Holiday." As several people have pointed out, the era is wrong. This lovely woman is Yourna Byrd (Lorraine Glover her nickname is Yourna)wife of jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd. She was photographed on 48th Street in NYC in 1960 by William Claxton.
Public Service Announcement: This is NOT Billie Holiday! This is Lorraine Glover, the wife of blues trumpeter, Donald Byrd. Photo by William Claxton, 1960. S)
Public Service Announcement: This is NOT Billie Holiday! This is also NOT Valaida Snow! The woman in the photo, taken in 1960 by William Claxton, is the wife of blues trumpeter, Donald Byrd. Her name is Lorraine Glover, possibly known as Youna Byrd.
Lorraine Glover (not Billie Holiday or Valaida Snow), wife of the great trumpet player Donald Byrd (48th Street, New York - photo by William Claxton, 1960)
Lorraine Glover, wife of famous hardbop trumpet player Donald Byrd [Photo William Claxton circa 1958-60] Contrary to the labelling often fixed to this photo, this is neither Billie Holiday nor Valaida Snow - both of whom were dead when this was taken.
