Billie Holiday-It was very rare to see jazz singer Billie Holiday perform without her iconic flower tucked into her style in some way. This feminine and noteworthy hair accessory is still one of the more distinguished looks in the music industry.

Billie Holliday ~ Beautiful Lady Day: “Strange Fruit”, (the song made famous by blues singer Billie Holiday, about Black Lynchings in the South, was originally a poem written by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish Schoolteacher from the Bronx. www.olivecocomag.... Strange Fruit”, the song about black lynching in the south made famous by blues singer Billie Holiday, was originally a poem written by Abel Meeropol, a Jewish schoolteacher from the Bronx. It was a huge protest for Billie to sing this song to all white audiences, but she did, often facing angry shouts and walkouts from her performances. She risked her life to sing the truth. #billieholiday
Another favourite.... known as Lady Day, Billie Holiday was a talented singer born as Eleanora Harris. She worked alongside Count Basie and Artie Shaw (also talented Jazz artists). She died in 1959 and in the 70s she was portrayed by Diana Ross in the film, "Lady Sings the Blues".
