Spice Market in Morocco. Supermarkets do not play a role for Moroccan citizens like they do for tourists. Moroccans rarely purchase food from places other than their everyday 'souk' or marketplace. The supermarkets are mainly located in the hotels which the tourists reside. It is not common for Moroccans to eat out at restaurants because they value quality family meals at home, as well as the influence of the economy. However, the French have a major impact on the Moroccans cuisine (mainly baked goods). Restaurants in Morocco have a mix of cuisines, with French cuisine having the most importance. Food is never purchased prepared - meat is freshly, hand slaughtered at the butchers and then prepared at home. The host take great pride in serving home cooked meals, despite the fact that they never enjoy hearing compliments commending their hard work.
