The cap is quilted with similar cut and construction of the internal and external fabric layers. The quilting (back stitch) is supported internally by cellulosic(?) cord held with decorative stitching of linen thread. The fabric is plain woven, possibly linen.

Quilted silk cap made in Egypt (found in tomb) woven silk and linen, leather, gold and paper 6 triangles make up the skull cap crown.

This 14th c cap is surmounted by a small ball bound with red thread.  The outer layer is pattern-woven (possibly lampas weave) silk fabric. The lining is woven of a bast-like fiber.  The pieces appear to have been quilted before they were sewn together. The quilt pattern of lozenges, stitched in red thread, can be viewed as overlapping six-pointed stars.  by men, women, and children in Mamluk Egypt.
