Sgt. Ted Belcher's unit was engaged in a search and destroy mission in Viet Nam. A reconnaissance platoon, located a few hundred meters from his company, received a heavy volume of fire from well camouflaged snipers. Moving forward to assist, Sgt. Belcher and his squad met heavy and accurate automatic weapons and sniper fire. As he moved up with his men, a hand grenade landed in their midst. Belcher immediately lunged forward, covering the grenade and saving his fellow soldiers.
