Queen Anne. Statue of the last Stuart monarch (r 1702-14) outside St Paul's Cathedral, with 2012 Christmas tree high up in the background. The original statue was by Francis Bird and completed in 1712, just after Wren's cathedral was itself finished (and Anne was on the throne). This version is is actually a replica by Richard Belt, completed in 1886 after the original had fallen into ruin.

The original cathedral was destroyed during World War II, but the ruins remain there. The new building has been seamlessly built right next to the ruins.

.I was here at St Paul's about two weeks before Diana and Charles were married. They were setting up speakers and cameras. No one was paying attention, so I strolled down the aisle pretending, for a minute, that I was a princess. The aisle was SO long, I was almost out of breath when I reached the altar. ..I really empathized with Diana that day when she had to make the trek in front of millions of people.

Finsbury Town Hall, Islington: Designed by Charles Evans-Vaughan, the hall was built in two stages. The first, completed in 1895, faced the newly formed Rosebery Avenue. The second, beneath an elaborate pediment carved with figures of Peace and Plenty, followed on five years later in a more florid baroque style. Evans-Vaughan designed the interior, the highlight being the 'Clerkenwell Angels', draped, winged female figures adorning the pillars bearing foliage with light bulbs as flowers.

Not only would I appreciate the elaborate works of art but the architecture of the building itself is art
