Celebrate Black History Month with "The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration" by Isabel Wilkerson. This narrative-based telling of the Great Migration, from 1915 to 1970, provides more personal, individualized context than other scholarship on this watershed event in African American history.
"In this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities in search of a better life..."--Container.

A book worth reading "The Warmth of Other Suns"
The Time Traveler's Wife I like this one. A little confusing at first because of all the jumping around, but I got used to it.
The Time Traveler's Wife. The not-cute-gasping-sobbing-kind-of-crying book....but SO GOOD you cannot put it down. Heart breaker.
The Time Traveler's Wife - do not, I repeat do NOT watch the movie. I loved this book, but the movie was not as good.
The Time Traveler's Wife was worth suspending disbelief for... I could not put it down!
Book Review: The Time Traveler's Wife - Audible finally has an unabridged version of this wonderful book. The narration is perfect, alternating between a male and female narrator as the chapters change between the male and female protagonist's views. This is a book about Henry, who has a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel and his wife Claire. When they first met in her time he was 38 and she was was 6. When they first met in his time line she was 20 and he was 28. My favorite book
The Time Traveler's Wife-one of my all time favs. You either loved it or hated it.

The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve (1998)
anita shreve - the pilot's wife
The Pilot's Wife-Until now, Kathryn Lyons's life has been peaceful if unextraordinary: a satisfying job teaching high school in the New England mill town of her childhood; a picture-perfect home by the ocean; a precocious, independent-minded fifteen-year-old daughter; and a happy marriage whose occasional dull passages she attributes to the unavoidable deadening of time. As a pilot's wife, Kathryn has learned to expect both intense exhilaration and long periods alone - but nothing has prepared her for the late-night knock that lets her know her husband has died in a crash. As Kathryn struggles with her grief, she descends into a maelstrom of publicity stirred up by the modern hunger for the details of tragedy. Even before the plane is located in waters off the Irish coast, the relentless scrutiny of her husband's life begins to bring a bizarre personal mystery into focus. Could there be any truth to the increasingly disturbing rumors that he had a secret life?
Sarah's Key #sarahskey A great WWII book from the point of view of a jewish child living in France, and a present day journalist researching WWII.
Sarah's Key- amazing book but incredibly sad... and they're making it into a movie although I can't say I'll see it in the theater's due to amount of tears I'll shed!
An amazing book with a strong message. Add this to your reading list, then go see the movie.
Such an amazing book. Sarahs Key - She closed the door on the little white face, turned the key in the lock. Then she slipped the key into her pocket. The lock was hidden by a pivoting device shaped like a light switch. It was impossible to see the outline of the cupboard in the paneling of the wall. Yes, he’d be safe there. She was sure of it. The girl murmured his name and laid her palm flat on the wooden panel. “I’ll come back for you later. I promise.” -From Sarah’s Key, page 9-
Sarah's Key.. this looks like an interesting book club selection too.

Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh: A mother of five, an acclaimed writer and a pioneering aviator, Lindbergh casts an unsentimental eye on the trappings of modernity that threaten to overwhelm us: the time-saving gadgets that complicate rather than simplify, the multiple commitments that take us from our families. And by recording her thoughts during a brief escape from everyday demands, she helps readers find a space for contemplation and creativity within their own lives.

Half Broke Horses -The life story of Jeannette Walls grandmother. Very interesting book. If you read "The Glass Castle" Jeanette Walls life story this book will answer some questions about her mother and why she was the way she was.
Jarrah Jungle: Book Club Book Review: Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. This is a true life story and a brilliant read about country life in the early/mid 1900s in America. I give it 5 stars out of 5.
Jeannette Walls, author of the memoir The Glass Castle, wrote the novel Half Broke Horses in her maternal grandmother's voice.
Jeannette Walls's memoir The Glass Castle was "nothing short of spectacular" (Entertainment Weekly). Now, in Half Broke Horses, she brings us the story of her grandmother, told in a first-person voice that is authentic, irresistible, and triumphant.
Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Read this book before "The glass Castle" they are both amazing books that make you take a second look on life. I recommend both of them.

Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls Walls, author of the best-selling memoir The Glass Castle, uses first-person narration to tell the story of Lily Casey Smith, her maternal grandmother, born in 1901. A true-life novel, the book describes Lily’s spirit, adventures, and love of life. -Kathy S 6/14

Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird is timeless! A must read for those who haven't yet . . My favorite book in high school I stole the book and just bought a new one last year for the anniversary of it's being published.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee 2 votes for favorite book. "It's full of love, lessons and it is just a fabulous story." - Julie Gores, Madison College Libraries Director. Another submitter likes "its sense of integrity, respect of others and selflessness demonstrated Atticus Fitch."

One of my all-time favorite books. I have read this book more than any other - I don't even know how many times I've read it - because it is such a great book and so short. I am sure I'll read it again someday. I love the way Harper Lee wrote, and the era, characters, and story are terrific. Atticus Finch is one of my favorite literary characters.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, was also on my high school reading list, classic.

Best Books To Cuddle Up With This Winter
Interesting, but not my favorite. I actually bought this book on my way back from Greece in June of 2007. It was one of the few English language books available in the airport.
Not my favorite book of the year, but still a compelling read. The premise: twins are born and the father (who is also the delivering doctor) sends the one born with Downs' Syndrome away while telling his wife that the baby died instead. The story is about what happens to all the people who were there that day throughout the remainder of their lives.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (KY author) ... the book takes place in Lexington, KY
Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. Read March 2014 - lovely story!
Memory Keeper's Daughter. Loved it, but the Lifetime movie was crap.

Good book, movie was better.
Another book club book.
The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. One of my all time favorite books I have EVER read. Liesel is a girl sent to live with a married couple around the time of WWII. She is a German girl who finds herself hiding a Jew in her house. She finds happiness by stealing books.
One of my favorite books of all time. The premise, following a young girl in Nazi Germany during World War II, is extremely interesting. The author's decision to create Death as a narrator also makes the book unique and captivating.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Everyone should read this book. It is beautifully narrated by an unlikely sympathetic character. Set in war torn Germany, it is the story of a young girl, the book thief, and those who love her. One of my absolute favorite books.
"The Book Thief" Markus Zusak. Fiction. The book is set in Nazi, Germany. It describes a young girl's relationship with foster parents, the other resident's of their neighborhood, and a Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home during WWII. New York Bestseller List (2006) for over 230 weeks. One of my favorite books because it is so well-written.
I liked the movie, but it seems to glance over some scenes, so I had to read the book. The book is much better than the movie! In Markus Zusak's novel, Death narrates it's observation of Liesel Meminger, a young girl in WWII Germany. She is fostered by a couple living just outside of Munich. She finds a book in the snow, can't read the words. With love and time she discovers the world of words and is hungry for more. Heartfelt and memorable, this is one of my favorite books now.
