Great read!  Love how it takes place in Canada!

LOVED this book - takes a view of the birthing process before hospitals - making that transition from midwives to doctors and all the tradition that came before it. Very awesome and the story is based in Canada! Extra points for Canadian stories :)

The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill Assigned reading from a friend.  Beautiful historical fiction about a young woman's life through slavery, "freedom," and resettlement in Sierra Leone.  The title and then heft of the book were off putting at first, but I'm so glad I read it!
