Let the flower of happiness blossom in your heart...
She's carrying a little bag from the Takashimaya department store. I would have loved to be shopping there when she wafted in - it's always thrilling to see a real Geisha. In Kyoto you do see many fakes because it's a practice to be dressed as Geisha (at a hefty price) and wander through the Geisha districts to have your photo taken. They are often expertly dressed in exquisite kimono and obi, but my Japanese friend could usually guess the difference very quickly.

“The teachings of the Buddha could be summarized in four short sentences. ... [The Buddha] said ... The bad things, don't do them. The good things, try to do them. Try to purify, subdue your own mind. That is the teaching of all buddhas.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Art of Power via Meditating Lawyers
Quan Yin Statue; Goddess of Compassion & Mercy - Abbandona ciò che è fuori. Coltiva ciò che è dentro. Vivi per il tuo centro, non per i sensi. (Lao Tzu)
Quan Yin statue; Goddess of compassion & mercy. Guanyin (in pinyin; previous transliterations Quan Yin, Kwan Yin, or Kuanyin) is an East Asian deity of mercy, and a bodhisattva associated with compassion as venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. The name Guanyin is short for Guanshiyin, which means "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the World". She is also sometimes referred to as Guanyin Pusa. Some Buddhists believe that when one of their adherents departs from this world, they are placed by Guanyin in the heart of a lotus, and then sent to the western pure land of Sukhāvatī. It is generally accepted among East Asian adherents that Guanyin originated as the Sanskrit Avalokiteśvara. Commonly known in English as the Mercy Goddess or Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin is also revered by Chinese Taoists as an immortal. In Chinese folk religion there are mythical accounts about Guanyin's origins that are not associated to the Avalokiteśvara described in Buddhist sutras.
