Wolf Hunt: Michigan voters reject wolf hunting laws - Keep Michigan Wolves Protected, a group funded primarily by the Humane Society of the United States, has vowed to fight the third wolf hunting law in court. “The people of Michigan don't want the NRC setting a wolf hunting season, and they don't want to give the NRC the authority to open new hunting seasons on protected species,” Fritz said. “And the NRC should honor the judgment rendered by voters come 2015.”

THIS IS JUST WRONG! “Most people are shocked to learn that it is legal to kill coyotes, foxes, bobcats, and other wildlife as part of a contest or tournament for prizes and recreational fun,” Fox said. The commission is scheduled to vote Dec. 3 on a petition that would make it illegal to offer a prize, inducement or reward for killing predators.

With 17 October looming, as the day beyond which Treasury Secretary Lew has said he cannot be sure of paying all the government's bills, the absence of any signs of a deal by then could unnerve some investors." ~ Erin @ We Leave No One Behind

Magnificent wolf creature in winter snow at Yellowstone.
Gray Wolf .. In the past two years, federal protections for wolves have been removed in the northern Rocky Mountains and western Great Lakes, leaving management decisions to individual states. States in these regions have approved aggressive hunting and trapping seasons designed to drastically reduce recently recovered populations resulting in hundreds of wolves dying. State management programs are as gruesome as they are ineffectual.

Northern Rocky Mountain wolves, a subspecies of the gray wolf (Canis lupus), were native to Yellowstone when the park was established in 1872. Predator control was practiced in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. Between 1914 & 1926, at least 136 wolves were killed in the park; by the 1940s, wolf packs were rarely reported. By the 1970s, scientists found no evidence of a wolf population in Yellowstone. Canadian grey wolves were introduced into Yellowstone in 1995.
